A total of 11 kilometers along the Nagdhunga–Malekhu section of the Prithvi Highway have been blacktopped. While eight kilometers were paved last year, an additional three kilometers have been completed this year.
According to Engineer Bijay Darai of the Nagdhunga–Muglin Road Project, about 40 percent of the third phase has been completed so far. Areas including Kurintar, Phisling, Charaundi, and parts of Bishaltar have been blacktopped.
Blacktopping work is currently ongoing in Bandare, Dhading. Base and sub-base layers have been laid in the Phisling and Jawang Khola areas. Among the six bridges along this section, above-ground construction work is in progress at Hugdi and Charaundi.
Engineer Darai said efforts are being made to ensure there is no shortage of construction materials. Although materials have been sourced from Charaundi and Benighat in Dhading as well as Ichchhakamana, he expressed concern that prolonged work could face supply shortages.
The 38-kilometer road section is being upgraded with financial assistance of Rs. 4.8059 billion under a loan from the World Bank.
