Twelve chyangras (mountain goats) were swept away and killed by a flood in Tethang village, Ward No. 3 of Baragung Muktikshetra Rural Municipality, Mustang district. According to reports, heavy rainfall triggered a flash flood in the Mangch Khola stream, which swept away four goats and eight chyangras.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Chhiring Kippa Lama at the District Police Office, Mustang, said that a police team from the Chhusang Area Police Office had reached Tethang to assess the damage and carry out rescue operations. The team has already arrived at the site, but a detailed report is yet to come, she added.
Local resident Sonam Chhiring Gurung informed that the flood also damaged irrigation canals and field walls in the village. Around 15 meters of the irrigation canal were washed away, and drinking water services have been disrupted in the area.
Similarly, the District Traffic Office building located below Jomsom suffered partial damage after rocks fell on it due to continuous rainfall. With the monsoon remaining active, several roads in Mustang have been blocked by landslides and floods.
In this situation, Ward Chairperson Pramesh Gurung of Baragung Muktikshetra–1 has urged travelers to avoid visiting Mustang for a few days due to safety concerns.
