Special Permit System Introduced for Tourist Vehicles on Election Day
Although vehicle movement will be restricted nationwide on the day of the House of Representatives election, a special permit system has been introduced to ensure that tourist travel is not affected.
According to the “Vehicle Permit Procedure, 2082” issued by the Election Commission Nepal, vehicles carrying tourists must obtain permission at least two days prior to the election day.
The Commission has presented this move as an effort to maintain a balance between security management and tourism services.
Commission spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai stated that since both international and domestic flights will operate regularly, vehicles are necessary to transport tourists from airports to hotels or other destinations. The permit system has been introduced with this need in mind.
For vehicles operating within the Kathmandu Valley, permission must be obtained directly from the Election Commission, while in other districts approval will be granted through the respective District Administration Offices.
There are also plans to manage the movement of vehicles using highways on election day.
Priority will be given to essential services, diplomatic missions, and vehicles affiliated with international organizations. Other private and commercial vehicles will not be allowed to operate without prior approval.
Through this arrangement, the Commission aims to ensure a secure and well-managed election while sending a message that tourists visiting Nepal will not face unnecessary disruption in their travel experience.
