PM Balen Shah Meets Nepal Rastra Bank Governor Bishwo Paudel
A meeting was held between Prime Minister Balen Shah and Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank, Bishwo Paudel, on Monday.
According to the Governor’s personal secretary Sharan Kumar Adhikari, Governor Paudel met Prime Minister Shah at the Prime Minister’s Office in the morning. He described the meeting as a courtesy call and said details of the discussion were not fully disclosed.
However, sources at Nepal Rastra Bank said Prime Minister Shah raised concerns about current issues in the banking sector, including remittance inflows and the country’s external economic situation. The Governor also briefed him on challenges faced by the central bank and the need for government facilitation.
During the meeting, Governor Paudel also brought up the issue of appointing deputy governors, noting that the positions have been vacant for nearly a month and timely appointments would ease operations. However, it is reported that the Prime Minister did not show much interest in this matter.
Two deputy governor positions at Nepal Rastra Bank have remained vacant since Chaitra 24. As per the provision, two candidates are appointed from among the 18 executive directors of the bank, with the Governor recommending four names, out of which two are selected.
