Out of the 440 inmates who escaped by breaking the wall of Bhimphedi Regional Prison in Makwanpur on the night of Bhadra 24, a total of 272 have returned as of this morning, according to prison chief Subas Paudel. With an additional 37 escapees returned from other prisons, the total number of inmates back in custody has reached 309.
According to Paudel, 168 inmates from Bhimphedi Prison are still absconding. Among the 39 foreign inmates who escaped, 13 have returned while 26 remain at large.
Security personnel have been apprehending escapees from various locations and returning them to the prison, Paudel said. Meanwhile, Makwanpur District Police spokesperson Pushkar Bogati stated that the search operation to locate the remaining fugitives has been intensified.
