A 17-year-old girl has died after being attacked by a tiger in the Janajagriti Community Forest of Madhuban Municipality–2 in Bardiya.
According to police, Binita Pariyar of Kothiya in the same ward was attacked by a tiger while she was on her way to cut grass. Local residents said the tiger attacked her in the community forest and dragged her deeper into the jungle.
As soon as information about the incident was received, a team of police and local residents launched a search and found Pariyar inside the forest, police said.
She was found in a critical condition and died while being taken to Bardiya Hospital for treatment, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police and Information Officer of the District Police Office, Devendra Bahadur Malla.
In recent times, the number of deaths caused by wildlife attacks in Bardiya has been increasing. So far in the month of Poush alone, three people have been killed and one injured in wildlife attacks.
District Forest Office data shows that six people have died due to leopard and tiger attacks so far in the current fiscal year.
At present, attacks by leopards and tigers have been reported more frequently in community forest areas rather than inside Bardiya National Park and its buffer zones.
