The Election Commission Nepal has completed printing ballot papers for 155 constituencies across 67 districts in preparation for the House of Representatives election scheduled for Falgun 21.
As of Sunday (Falgun 3), a total of 19.124 million ballot papers have been printed and kept ready for dispatch, according to Assistant Spokesperson Kul Bahadur GC. Ballot papers for the remaining 10 districts have also been printed, with only packaging left to complete. Around 1.199 million ballot papers are yet to be printed.
So far, ballot papers from 67 districts have been printed, packed, and prepared for transportation. Until Saturday, ballot papers for 66 districts had been printed and packed, and on Sunday, one additional district was completed.
The Commission stated that only districts around the Kathmandu Valley remain to be printed. The remaining ballot papers are expected to be printed, packed, and made ready for dispatch within the next two days. So far, 17,728 boxes of ballot papers have been packed.
Currently, around 1,000 boxes are being packed daily, and between 1.1 to 1.5 million ballot papers are being printed each day.
Ballot printing began on Poush 22 at Janak Education Materials Centre Limited, Sanothimi, for both the proportional representation and first-past-the-post systems. In the first phase, 1,098,200 sample ballot papers were printed and distributed to various districts.
Printing for the proportional representation system began on Poush 26 and was completed on Magh 13, with 20.83 million ballot papers printed, packed, verified, and prepared for dispatch.
For the direct (first-past-the-post) election system, the Commission plans to print 20.323 million ballot papers. Printing under this system began on Magh 16.
Distribution of printed ballot papers started on Friday, with the first phase sent to Karnali Province. Ballot papers have also been dispatched to remote districts in Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces. Distribution to urban and more accessible districts is yet to begin.
