The 19th session of the Federal Parliament’s National Assembly has officially begun. The session was held at the old National Assembly building within the Federal Parliament Secretariat premises in Singha Durbar.
National Assembly Chairperson Narayan Prasad Dahal declared the session open and welcomed the members. He also read out the letter from the President calling the session. A moment of silence was observed to honor martyrs who contributed to democracy.
The assembly passed a condolence motion for the late member Baldev Bohara, who was born in 2008 BS in Kanchanpur and passed away on Poush 30. Bohara had been elected as a Constituent Assembly member in 2070 BS and later to the National Assembly in 2080 BS.
The National Assembly, the upper house of the Federal Parliament, is a permanent house consisting of 59 members. It includes experienced and eminent personalities from various sectors of society. Members serve a six-year term, with one-third of the members’ terms expiring every two years.
Currently, the National Assembly comprises 25 members from the Nepal Communist Party (NCP), 17 from Nepali Congress, 9 from CPN-UML, 3 from the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP), 1 from the Loktantrik Samajbadi Party (LSP), 1 from Rastriya Janamorcha, and 3 nominated members. Elections to select 19 new members are scheduled for Magh 11.
The next National Assembly meeting is scheduled for Friday, Magh 9, at 1:15 pm.
