The 304th birth anniversary of Prithvi Narayan Shah, the founder of modern Nepal, is being observed across the country today with various programs. Born in 1779 BS, Shah’s birth anniversary is also celebrated as National Unity Day.
To honor his contributions to the unification of Nepal, floral tributes are traditionally offered at the statue of Prithvi Narayan Shah located in front of the western gate of Singha Durbar, the country’s main administrative complex. As the leader of Nepal’s unification campaign, Shah’s role in nation-building is remembered on this occasion every year.
Marking Prithvi Jayanti, the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has organized a tea reception today. The party has invited the Prime Minister, top leaders of various political parties, former prime ministers, and other distinguished personalities to the event.
Similarly, Shah’s birthplace, Gorkha, observes the day annually with special programs dedicated to his legacy and contributions to national unity.
