At least 31 people were killed and 149 others injured in Israeli airstrikes targeting the southern suburbs of Beirut and several areas in southern Lebanon, Lebanon’s Health Ministry announced.
In a statement, the Public Health Emergency Operations Center of the Ministry of Public Health said on Monday that 20 people were killed and 91 injured in the southern suburbs of Beirut. Similarly, 11 people were killed and 58 injured in attacks on southern Lebanon. The center warned that the death toll could rise.
The Israeli strikes reportedly targeted Beirut’s southern suburbs following rocket launches from southern Lebanon toward Israeli facilities, triggering a large wave of displacement.
This marks the first reported rocket attack toward Israeli units since a ceasefire agreement came into effect in November 2024.
Under the ceasefire agreement implemented in November 2024, Israeli forces were required to withdraw from southern border villages and towns within 60 days. The Lebanese government later agreed to extend the deadline until February 18. However, Israeli forces remain deployed at five locations, and ceasefire violations have continued.
