The paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have attacked a famine-hit displacement camp outside El-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur Province, killing 40 people.
The Emergency Response Rooms group, which operates in the Abu Shouk displacement camp, reported that the RSF, currently engaged in fighting against the Sudanese army, attacked parts of the camp. The group, which provides aid across Sudan, stated that at least 19 people were injured in the assault.
Abu Shouk camp, located outside El-Fasher, is home to around 450,000 displaced people. Despite repeated RSF attacks, El-Fasher remains under the control of the Sudanese army.
Sudan’s civil war began in April 2023 in the capital, Khartoum, following tensions between the RSF and the army, and has since spread across the country. The conflict has claimed the lives of more than 40,000 people, displaced 12 million, and pushed many to the brink of starvation.
