Today, September 27, the 46th World Tourism Day is being celebrated across Nepal and the world. Marking the occasion, the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, the Nepal Tourism Board, the Department of Tourism, and leading tourism-related associations are organizing various programs nationwide.
This year’s celebration is being held under the theme “Tourism and Green Transformation” (translated as “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation”). World Tourism Day is observed every year on September 27. The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has been commemorating this day since 1980 to promote awareness of tourism’s social, cultural, political, and economic value.
According to statistics from the Nepal Tourism Board, 736,562 tourists visited Nepal in the first eight months of 2025. Nepal has now entered its peak tourist season, attracting large numbers of trekkers and travelers from various countries. The upcoming festivals such as Dashain, Tihar, and Chhath are expected to further boost tourism activity. Tourism entrepreneurs believe that World Tourism Day helps create momentum and enthusiasm in the tourism sector.
