A total of 48 delegates have been selected from Kathmandu district for the CPN (UML)’s 11th National General Convention. Among them, 35 are reportedly aligned with former President Bidya Devi Bhandari’s faction.
According to Kathmandu district chair Deepak Niraula, the delegates selected from each constituency are as follows:
Constituency 1: Ganesh Dulal, Bishnu Kumari Bhusal, Ram Prasad Omagai, Safal Shrestha
Constituency 2: Maniram Phuyal, Sanu Kumar Shrestha, Nawaraj Dahal, Shova Karki, Shanta Thapa
Constituency 3: Kalpana Rajchal, Isa Devi Gurung, Shyam Krishna Karmaacharya, Bishwaraj Shrestha, Dr. Vidur Chalise
Constituency 4: Uddhav Kharel, Shree Krishna Shrestha, Prakash Katuwal, Sunita Gurung, Saraswati Karki
Constituency 5: Dhruvaraj Pandey, Ratna Gurung, Ram Krishna Shrestha, Ambar Dangol
Constituency 6: Bishwanath Lamichhane, Krishna Prasad Adhikari, Devimaya Acharya, Binda Budhathoki, Shyam Krishna Maharjan (all unopposed)
Constituency 7: Prakash Shrestha, Jeevan Manandhar, Purnima Shrestha, Sapana Aryal, Pramesh Dhimal (Purnima and Sapana unopposed)
Constituency 8: Rajesh Shakya, Shankar KC, Sushila Adhikari, Bablu Shivakoti
Constituency 9: Keshav Prasad Pokharel, Uttam Bahadur Raut, Purna Kumar Tandukar, Ranju Khadka, Sanu Maya Khadka
Constituency 10: Prem Bahadur Shahi, Mahesh Tamang, Santosh Khadka, Laxmi Luintel Kafle, Basanti Shrestha (all unopposed)
From the Dalit category, Bhakta Darnal has been selected.
The district chairpersons of Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Lalitpur did not seek delegate positions, stating they wanted to play an advisory role and provide opportunities for others. Kathmandu, with 14,700 organized members, selected 48 delegates, while Bhaktapur and Lalitpur chose 14 delegates each.
Meanwhile, UML Central Vice-President of the Farmers’ Federation Bheshraj Adhikari and Bidya faction member Gajendra Thapaliya were barred from becoming delegates. Dissatisfied members have criticized the chairperson for making unilateral decisions.
