The Sudanese government reported that a drone attack by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on an internally displaced persons shelter in El Fasher, a city in western Sudan, killed 57 civilians on Saturday.
In a statement, the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the assault, describing it as another “massacre by the terrorist militia” at the Dar Al-Arqam shelter. The ministry said the attack was part of the RSF’s ongoing plan to carry out collective extermination of displaced persons and civilians.
According to the statement, the victims included 17 children, 22 women, and 18 elderly people.
The Sudanese government called on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to take responsibility and press the RSF to lift its siege on El Fasher and immediately halt its attacks on the city.
Violent clashes have been ongoing in El Fasher since May 2024.
