Lumbini Chief Minister Discusses Good Governance and Cooperation with UK Embassy Official
Lumbini Province Chief Minister Chet Narayan Acharya held discussions with Andrew Longbitch, Head of Governance and Social Development at the British Embassy, regarding good governance and bilateral cooperation. The meeting took place on Tuesday at the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers in Deukhuri.
During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on strengthening good governance, implementing federalism effectively, and promoting development cooperation in the province. Chief Minister Acharya said that the provincial government is continuously working to strengthen federalism and improve the living standards of citizens. He added that both provincial and local governments are progressing with the implementation of their planned programs.
Highlighting the historic and friendly relations between Nepal and the United Kingdom, Acharya noted that recent political changes in Nepal have brought various direct and indirect challenges affecting administrative and physical infrastructures. He emphasized the need for continuity and stability in development programs supported by both governments.
Chief Minister Acharya expressed hope for mutual cooperation in strengthening federalism, implementing people-oriented programs effectively, and promoting good governance. He also mentioned that the province is facing economic challenges and has decided to cut 20 percent of the allocated budget for the current fiscal year.
Informing that the provincial government has prepared a five-year strategic plan for promoting good governance and controlling corruption, Acharya said that projects above Rs 500,000 are being implemented through open competition to ensure transparency. He expressed confidence that significant improvements in governance and service delivery can be achieved within the next five years.
Acharya also stated that a committee led by the Chief Secretary has been formed to listen to the voices of youth and address their concerns. The committee will submit a report with recommendations, which will guide policy and practical actions of the provincial government.
During the meeting, British Embassy representative Andrew Long reaffirmed the commitment to further strengthen Nepal–UK relations. He expressed the UK government’s readiness to cooperate in the areas of good governance, development, and strengthening federal practices. He also assured continued British support in promoting economic growth in the province, creating employment opportunities, and implementing the second periodic development plan.
