A joint team of the Nepali Army, Armed Police Force (APF), and Nepal Police has rescued people stranded in heavy snowfall in the Himalayan district of Manang. According to APF Deputy Spokesperson Shailendra Thapa, 750 people trapped at Tilicho Base Camp due to snowfall since last night were rescued and brought safely to Khangsar in Disyang Rural Municipality-9.
Another 50 people have been kept safely at Tilicho Base Camp for the time being. Thapa informed that tourists visiting Manang were moved to safety after accommodation problems arose in Khangsar due to the sudden weather conditions.
Meanwhile, 45-year-old Birendra Rasailee from Kathmandu Metropolitan City-31, who had fallen unconscious due to altitude sickness while returning from Tilicho Lake, was rescued by the APF and the Nepal Mountain Rescue Training Center in Manang and transported to Humde Health Post for medical treatment.
Rescue efforts in high-altitude regions have become more effective since the establishment of the Mountain Rescue Training Center of the Armed Police Force, which conducts specialized search and rescue training for operations in snow-covered and mountainous terrain.
