
Flash Floods in Himalai Rural Municipality-1 Sweep Away 11 Houses in Bichchhya
A flash flood on Wednesday night has destroyed 11 houses in Bichchhya, Ward No. 1 of Himalai Rural Municipality.
The flood, which originated from the Bichchhya Khola, caused the most damage in Wards 1, 3, and 5. Police Inspector Devbahadur Chaudhary of the District Police Office reported that seven houses were partially damaged, and 17 more are at risk.
A team from Kavadi Police Post visited the affected areas to collect data. The flood damaged the homes, shops, and farmland of residents including Narendra Bahadur Budha, Chanchalal Thapa, Dhansingh Thapa, Sabble Thapa, Lalbahadur Thapa, Sujalal Thapa, and Govatal Thapa in Ward 1.
In Ward 5, homes of Navaraj Budha, Devilal Chadara, Birbal Chadara, Ajay Chadara, Hiunsara Lwar, and Angvir Chadara were swept away, along with the houses of Balbahadur Chadara, Muga Luhar, Devilal Budhthapa, Virbhan Luhar, and Dabal Luhar.
Several homes remain at high risk due to the flood, including those of Sujalal Thapa, Dhansingh Thapa, Jabaillal Thapa, Dhanbahadur Thapa, Chandrapati Thapa, Dharmalal Thapa, and Balchandra Thapa in Ward 1, as well as those of Une Thapa, Lalsingh Bohara, Dilbahadur Thapa, Harilal Thapa, Bhaurlal Thapa, Chandrawan Thapa, Ratnapati Thapa, Gobanal Thapa, Dharmajeet Thapa, and Laxman Thapa.
The floods also damaged government offices, schools, and public infrastructure. Ward No. 1 office, Bichchhya Secondary School, the local health post, electricity lines, the suspension bridge, and water channels in Neta and Deusain are at risk.
A team led by Rural Municipality Chair Govindr Bahadur Malla has visited the affected areas to monitor the damage. Chief Administrative Officer Kulbahadur Thapa said the team assessed the situation in all three affected wards and met with residents.
Chair Malla stated that the Executive Committee will convene to decide on relief and rehabilitation measures for the flood-affected population.
