The National Campaign for Children as Zones of Peace has urged all political parties to incorporate child rights issues into their election manifestos.
Drawing attention to the importance of protecting child rights, the campaign submitted a 25-point memorandum to representatives of political parties, calling for the inclusion of child rights-related commitments in their policy documents.
The campaign emphasized the need to ensure child rights at all local, provincial, and federal levels in line with the Constitution of Nepal, the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989), the Children’s Act, 2018, the Local Government Operation Act, 2017, and the National Child Policy.
It has also called for prioritizing child-friendly local governance, child marriage-free local units, child labor-free local units, nutrition-friendly local units, environment-friendly local units, violence-free local units, and street child-free local units. Ensuring the protection and promotion of children’s rights and welfare should be given top priority, the campaign stated.
