The Mithila Madhyamiki Parikrama, known as a cultural bridge between Nepal and India, has formally begun. The pilgrimage started on Monday from Thera Kachuri in Mithila Bihari Municipality with the palanquins of Lord Ram and Janaki.
On the first day, the pilgrims rest at Hanumannagar in Janakpurdham. The next morning, after पूजा rituals, saints and devotees will depart for Kalyaneshwar in Bihar, India, including a visit to Kalyaneshwar Temple.
The route passes through Girijasthan of Phulhar, Matihani, Jaleshwar, Madai, Dhruvakunda, Kanchanban, Parwatta, Dhanushadham, Aurahi and Bishaul before reaching Kalyaneshwar again and finally returning to Janakpurdham on the full moon day.
Every year, devotees walk a total of 133 kilometers over 15 days—105 kilometers in Nepal and 28 kilometers in India. The pilgrimage that started today was inaugurated by Krishna Prasad Yadav, the Chief Minister of Madhesh Province, by lifting the sacred palanquin.
Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Yadav said the provincial government will move forward with special initiatives to promote the Ramayana Circuit. He added that he would personally visit India to hold meetings and discussions with concerned stakeholders. He also shared plans to expand Janakpur Airport to help directly connect Janakpurdham with Ayodhya.
