Dolprasad (DP) Aryal, Vice Chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has officially registered his candidacy for the post of Speaker of the House of Representatives.
The candidacy registration for the Speaker post took place on Friday, ahead of the election scheduled for Chaitra 22. According to the Federal Parliament Secretariat, the registration window was set from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, with the final list of candidates to be published at 2:30 PM.
The House meeting on Chaitra 22 will include proposals for the Speaker post, where supporting members will endorse the candidates. After collective discussion on the nominations, the decision will be presented for voting.
Earlier, the RSWP’s Thursday meeting had decided to put forward Aryal for the Speaker post, and following this decision, he registered his candidacy today.
Currently, in the absence of a Speaker, senior member Arjun Narsingh KC has been chairing the House of Representatives sessions.
Following the Speaker election, the election for the National Assembly Deputy Chairperson will be held on Chaitra 23, with the nomination registration scheduled for Chaitra 22. The position of Deputy Chairperson has been vacant since Vimala Ghimire’s term ended on 20 Falgun.
