The Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration has called for feedback on potential revisions to the number and boundaries of rural municipalities, municipalities, and wards.
On Baisakh 3, the ministry issued letters to all District Coordination Committees Nepal, local governments, and relevant stakeholders seeking their input.
Copies of the letter were also shared with the District Coordination Committee Federation Nepal, the Municipality Association of Nepal, and the National Association of Rural Municipalities in Nepal to help facilitate the consultation process.
The ministry stated that a preliminary draft has been prepared in accordance with Sections 3, 5, 6, 7, and 8 of the Local Government Operation Act, 2017. The draft proposes possible adjustments to local government boundaries and ward numbers, potential mergers between rural municipalities and municipalities, and a review of the current municipal classification.
Stakeholders have been asked to submit their suggestions to the ministry’s official email within three days.
