President Ram Chandra Paudel expressed confidence that the Chhath festival will further inspire and strengthen national unity among Nepalis.
In a message of best wishes on the occasion of Chhath Festival 2082, President Paudel said, “This festival will inspire us to end all kinds of social discrimination, including class, caste, and gender-based inequality, eradicate harmful practices and distortions, enhance national unity, preserve and promote our indigenous culture, and strengthen mutual harmony among all Nepalis.”
President Paudel stated that Chhath contributes to the pursuit of sustainable peace, good governance, development, and prosperity. The festival is celebrated with devotion by worshipping Sun God (Surya), water, and earth, while performing rituals dedicated to Chhathi Mata. Devotees spend the night on riverbanks, ponds, and lakes in prayer and fasting.
There is a popular belief that performing the Chhath rituals with full devotion brings prosperity, fulfillment of wishes, family well-being, and relief from suffering.
President Paudel further said, “By realizing the importance of the Sun for life on Earth, devotees observe fast from Kartik Shukla Chaturthi to Saptami, stand in flowing water, and offer milk and water to the setting and rising sun. This festival deepens environmental awareness, promotes responsibility toward nature, and enhances family and social unity.”
