After more than 30 years since its establishment, Purbanchal University has finally received approval to launch the MBBS program at its School of Medicine in Gothgaun.
A meeting of the Medical Education Commission, chaired by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Thursday, granted the university permission to run the program with a capacity of 50 seats.
This achievement is being hailed as a major milestone in the university’s history. It comes after years of unsuccessful attempts, made possible by the persistent voices of the people of Sundarharaincha, support from the province’s residents, the collective effort of the entire university community, efficient leadership, thorough infrastructure preparation, and decisive approval from the Government of Nepal.
Ranjan Ojha, a Senate member of Purbanchal University, called the day “a blessed day when our vision became reality.” He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, officials of the Medical Education Commission, visionary Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Biju Kumar Thapaliya, MPs Dr. Shekhar Koirala and Dr. Sunil Sharma, university officials, professors, doctors, staff, local political parties, and all stakeholders.
Ojha claimed this achievement will be a true “game changer” for Koshi Province in the fields of health, education, and employment. According to him, millions of citizens in the province will now have access to affordable and quality healthcare close to home, and future bright and skilled doctors will graduate from this prestigious college.
