An all-party meeting has begun at the call of the Federal Parliament Secretariat to discuss preparations for the upcoming House session.
The meeting was convened after Ram Chandra Paudel summoned a meeting of the Federal Parliament for Thursday at 2:00 PM. Discussions are focused on how to proceed with the first sitting of the newly formed House.
Senior-most member of the House of Representatives, Arjun Narasingha KC, along with representatives from all political parties, is participating in the meeting. The new Parliament is required to elect the Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
The House of Representatives of Nepal has 275 members. Among them, the Rastriya Swatantra Party has secured 182 seats, the Nepali Congress 37 seats, the Communist Party of Nepal (UML) 25 seats, the Nepal Communist Party 17 seats, the Shram Sanskriti Party 7 seats, and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party 5 seats. These parties have received recognition as national parties.
The meeting, called on Wednesday, is also being attended by government representatives to finalize how Thursday’s parliamentary session will proceed.
