A counterpart coordination meeting at the DIG level between the Armed Police Force Nepal and India’s Sashastra Seema Bal was held in Champawat, Uttarakhand, India.
According to the APF, the meeting held on Thursday focused on preventing possible illegal cross-border infiltration, smuggling, and drug trafficking in border areas in the context of the upcoming House of Representatives election.
Both sides agreed to enhance information sharing and closely monitor potential illegal and anti-election activities during the election period. They also discussed measures to prevent unlawful cross-border movement and to ensure the effectiveness of border closures during the election silence period.
The meeting further discussed strengthening joint and parallel border patrols to address possible security challenges during the election and to make security arrangements more efficient and effective.
An agreement was reached to direct subordinate units on both sides to maintain continuous and close coordination to control illegal activities along the border, including unauthorized entry of third-country nationals, drug trafficking, human trafficking, counterfeit currency circulation, and smuggling of arms and cash.
The Nepali delegation was led by Senior Superintendent of Armed Police Digvijay Subedi, Acting Brigade Commander of APF Nepal No. 7 Baidyanath Brigade Headquarters, Attariya.
On the Indian side, DIGs Sudhanshu Nautiyal and Anil Kumar Sharma from Sector Headquarters Almora and Pilibhit, along with all regiment chiefs of the SSB operating along the border with Sudurpashchim Province, were present.
Coordination meetings between the Sashastra Seema Bal of India and the Armed Police Force Nepal have been regularly held at central, provincial, and district levels.
