Aren Rai of the Shram Sanskriti Party has been elected as a member of the House of Representatives from Khotang. He defeated CPN-UML candidate Devbikram Rai by a margin of 3,898 votes.
According to the Office of the Chief Election Officer, Aren Rai, from Sungde, Fedi, Ward No. 1 of Kepilasgadhi Rural Municipality, received 16,612 votes, while Devbikram Rai secured 12,714 votes.
Other candidates’ results were as follows: Nepali Congress candidate Birakaji Rai – 11,957 votes; NCP candidate Dr. Hari Roka – 9,443 votes; Rastriya Swatantra Party candidate Rudra Giri – 5,704 votes; Rastriya Parivartan Party candidate Mireish Rai – 947 votes.
Other minor candidates included: Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) – Rakesh Rai – 337 votes; Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) – Deepak Tamang – 477 votes; NCP (Maoist) – Chandra Bahadur Budhathoki – 182 votes; JSP (Nepal) – Sunil Chamling – 111 votes; Mongol National Organization – Prayag Rai – 32 votes; Mitree Party Nepal – Kesharman Chamling – 26 votes; Nepal Mazdoor Kisan Party – Dhyan Prasad Dhakal – 26 votes.
