Approximately six hundred thousand people are estimated to leave the Kathmandu Valley for the Tihar festival starting from Saturday.
According to the Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs, the number of people leaving the valley is expected to increase this year due to the long Tihar holiday.
Federation President Vijay Bahadur Swar said transportation services will be managed smoothly for passengers traveling out of the valley during Tihar. “During Dashain, many people faced difficulties because of heavy rainfall, but the highways have now been repaired for Tihar. There will be no such hardship this time,” he said.
Information Officer of the Department of Roads, Shubhanjan Dahal, also stated that major highways across the country have been repaired, ensuring hassle-free travel for those heading far to celebrate Tihar. “During Dashain, some highways were damaged due to floods and landslides. Only the Mechi Highway section near the Mai River was left to repair. That too has been opened from Saturday,” he said. “There are no problems on national highways now, and we are ready to clear roads immediately if any obstruction occurs due to dry landslides or other reasons.”
