At least 20 people were killed when a private bus caught fire in the western Indian state of Rajasthan on Tuesday, according to government officials.
The moving bus suddenly caught fire near Thayat village in Jaisalmer district, about 548 kilometers west of the state capital, Jaipur.
Officials said the bus was carrying 57 passengers when smoke began to emerge from the rear part of the vehicle. The driver stopped the bus immediately, but within moments, the entire bus was engulfed in flames, trapping many passengers inside. Several others were injured, some of them critically.
Although the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation, police suspect that an electrical short circuit inside the bus might have triggered the blaze.
