The Bagmati Province government has declared a public holiday across the province on the occasion of the Gaijatra festival, which falls on Shrawan 25 (August 9).
According to Rabita Karki, Information Officer at the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law, the decision was made by the provincial cabinet and officially published in the Provincial Gazette.
Gaijatra is widely celebrated in Bagmati Province, especially in areas with a significant Newar population, including the Kathmandu Valley.
