
In the first match of the Super Four stage of Asia Cup 2025, Bangladesh defeated Sri Lanka by 4 wickets. The match was played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, where Sri Lanka, after losing the toss and being asked to bat first, scored 168 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their allotted 20 overs.
Chasing a target of 169, Bangladesh reached the target in 19.5 overs, losing 6 wickets. Opener Saif Hassan played a brilliant innings of 61 runs off 45 balls, hitting 2 fours and 4 sixes. Captain Liton Das contributed 23 runs, Tohit Redoy scored 58, and Sahim Hossain remained unbeaten on 14 runs.
For Sri Lanka, Wanindu Hasaranga and Dasun Shanaka took 2 wickets each, while Nuwan Thushara and Dushmantha Chameera took 1 wicket each. Earlier, during Sri Lanka’s innings, Dasun Shanaka top-scored with 64 not out off 37 balls, striking 3 fours and 6 sixes. The opening pair of Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis contributed 22 and 34 runs respectively. Kusal Perera added 16 runs, and captain Charith Asalanka scored 21.
Bangladesh’s bowling was led by Mustafizur Rahman, who took 3 wickets, followed by Mehedi Hasan with 2 wickets and Taskin Ahmed with 1 wicket.
Sri Lanka had entered the Super Four stage as Group B winners, remaining unbeaten in the league phase, while Bangladesh qualified as Group B runners-up. Today, the Super Four match will feature India, unbeaten from Group A, against Pakistan, the Group A runner-up.
