A 15-year-old boy was injured in a shooting incident in Malangwa, the district headquarters of Sarlahi, on Thursday.
The injured has been identified as Aakash Ram, son of Ram Bishwas Ram, a resident of Ward No. 4 of Malangwa.
According to police, the boy was shot while playing with an abandoned pistol found at a place locally known as “Dhaka Border” in Ward No. 4. The firearm had reportedly been wrapped in red cloth and left inside a corner of an under-construction Hanuman temple at the site.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Saroj Rai of the District Police Office Sarlahi said the bullet struck the boy in the palm of his right hand. Police stated that the boy had opened the wrapped object, discovered the pistol, and fired it assuming it was fake, when it accidentally discharged and injured him.
The injured boy is currently undergoing treatment at the Provincial Hospital in Malangwa and is reported to be out of danger.
Police are also investigating whether the weapon used in the incident could be linked to the fatal shooting of Sub-Engineer Pramod Kumar Yadav, who was working at the Infrastructure Development Office in Sarlahi. Yadav was shot dead by unidentified persons on the night of Falgun 3 (Sunday) in Malangwa.
