A passenger bus traveling in Rautahat caught fire on Wednesday morning. The incident took place near Paschim Lachka of Chandrapur Municipality-4 along the East-West Highway at around 7:15 AM. The bus, with registration number Bagmati Province-2-03-001 Kha 5555, suddenly caught fire while it was moving, police said.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Raju Karki of the Rautahat District Police Office, the bus was en route from Kathmandu to Chandrapur carrying passengers returning home to celebrate Tihar. Preliminary investigation revealed that the fire was caused by a short circuit in the battery wire.
After receiving information about the incident, a police team from the Chandranigahapur Area Police Office led by Police Inspector Rupesh Kumar Jha, along with locals and a fire engine, brought the fire under control after about an hour, DSP Karki said.
The bus was completely destroyed by the fire. However, there were no human casualties as all passengers managed to escape safely, police confirmed.
