A brilliant century by captain Rohit Paudel guided Nepal to a total of 233 runs against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 match being played in the UAE. Nepal was bowled out in the allotted 50 overs, setting a target of 234 runs for the hosts.
Captain Rohit Paudel played a gritty knock, scoring 109 runs off 130 balls, anchoring the innings when wickets kept falling at the other end.
Nepal started their innings steadily but lost early wickets. After adding 23 runs, opener Kushal Bhurtel was dismissed for 7 runs in the fifth over. Shortly after, with the team score at just 26, Bhim Sharki also departed after making only 3 runs.
Opener Aasif Sheikh and captain Rohit Paudel then built a slow but crucial 34-run partnership. Aasif was dismissed for 35 runs in the 18th over, leaving Nepal at 61/3.
Rohit then found support from Aarif Sheikh, with the duo adding a vital 70-run stand for the fourth wicket. Aarif contributed 27 runs before being dismissed in the 33rd over.
Later, Dipendra Singh Airee joined Rohit to add another 54 runs for the fifth wicket. Airee was run out for 23 in the 42nd over, taking Nepal’s score to 185/5. Soon after, Gulshan Jha was dismissed for a duck.
Sompal Kami (6), Karan KC (13), and Sandeep Lamichhane (3) made brief contributions as Nepal’s innings concluded at 233.
For UAE, Zahid Ali was the pick of the bowlers with 4 wickets, while Junaid Siddique took 3 wickets and Mohammad Rashid and Haider Ali claimed one wicket each.
