Chairman of the National Assembly Narayan Prasad Dahal has expressed confidence that the Chhath festival plays an important role in strengthening social and cultural harmony and national unity.
Extending best wishes for happiness, peace, prosperity, and longevity to all Nepalis living at home and abroad on the occasion of Chhath Festival 2082, he shared his message of goodwill.
He said, “Our country is a nation with multi-religious, multi-lingual, multi-cultural, and multi-ethnic characteristics. The Constitution provides equal rights to all castes, religions, cultures, and communities. The festivals celebrated according to the traditions of various castes, religions, and communities reflect our diversity.” He added that unity in diversity is the identity of being Nepali.
Chhath, celebrated by worshipping the Sun, is considered a festival that strengthens the relationship between nature and human life. Offering argha (ritual offerings) to the setting sun, observing a night-long fast on the banks of rivers or water bodies, and offering argha again to the rising sun the next morning are key features of this festival. The festival is associated with water, land, and the sun—elements essential for human life—and reflects deep respect for nature.
He further said, “Celebrated with the belief of ensuring family welfare, happiness of children, and fulfillment of wishes, Chhath festival inspires all of us to move forward on the path of family, community, and overall human welfare. With this belief, I extend my heartfelt best wishes.”
