Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut has retired upon reaching the mandatory age limit of 65. He had been serving as Chief Justice since 20 Ashoj 2081 BS, following the retirement of former Chief Justice Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha.
Raut was appointed as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Nepal on 17 Shrawan 2073 BS and led the Court for about one and a half years. With his retirement, the number of vacant justice positions at the Supreme Court has risen to three.
Following his departure, the senior-most justice, Sapana Pradhan Malla, has automatically assumed the role of Acting Chief Justice. If the appointment follows the seniority roll, she will be appointed as Chief Justice. Under the current age-limit provision, her tenure would continue until 9 Kartik 2085 BS.
