
After cholera spread in Birgunj, the only metropolitan city of Madhesh Province, the federal, provincial, and local governments have stepped up efforts for its control and prevention.
In a meeting of the District Health Crisis Management Committee, Parsa, representatives of all three levels of government expressed their commitment to work jointly against the outbreak.
Madhesh Province Minister for Health and Population Satrughan Prasad Singh said the provincial government is taking the epidemic seriously. He added that there is continuous coordination with Federal Health Minister Pradeep Paudel, ensuring that there will be no shortage of resources and manpower in the affected areas.
“We will not allow any shortage in the treatment of patients. Whatever medicines, equipment, and manpower are needed, the Madhesh government is ready to provide them,” said Minister Singh.
He further informed that necessary medicines and health supplies have already been provided to Narayani Hospital, and nearly a dozen health workers, including doctors, have been mobilized in Birgunj.
The provincial government has deployed 10 medical officers, 10 paramedical staff, and several nurses to Narayani Hospital. Ministry Secretary Dr. Om Prasad Aryal assured that additional medicines and health workers will be supplied if required.
Chief Administrative Officer of Birgunj Metropolitan City, Arbind Lal Karna, said that immediately after the confirmation of the infection, all concerned agencies were mobilized, and the metropolitan team has been actively working on treatment and prevention.
He added that work to manage drinking water pipelines running through drainage areas has already started from Sunday, beginning with the most affected Ward No. 12.
