The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has approached the Supreme Court against former Nepal Insurance Authority Chairman Surya Prasad Silwal.
The CIAA moved to the apex court after the Special Court acquitted Silwal in a case accusing him of repeatedly altering his date of birth.
According to the CIAA, Silwal knowingly submitted false information by reducing his age to qualify for appointment as the Chairman of the Nepal Insurance Authority. The commission argues that he used falsified documents—including forms showing a reduced age—to obtain diplomatic and special passports meant for government officials, and continued to use them to gain benefits and facilities.
The CIAA claims that these actions fall under offenses punishable by the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2059 (2002), and has sought appropriate punishment for Silwal.
Additionally, the commission has asked the court to recover over Rs 3.62 million in benefits that Silwal allegedly received unlawfully.
