The Civic Group has called on the government, the Gen-Z movement, and political parties to remain calm and act responsibly amid escalating tensions in Simara, Bara.
Issuing a statement, the group’s chairperson Bishnuhari Dahal expressed serious concern over the recent unrest, noting that inappropriate conduct by all sides is pushing the country towards an unnecessary crisis.
According to the statement, the ongoing instability and politically motivated activities during a sensitive period—when preparations are underway for the scheduled election on Falgun 21—are adversely affecting the nation’s democratic process.
The group highlighted that the clash near the highly sensitive Simara Airport area, the imposition of a curfew, damage to infrastructure, and provocative behaviour from both sides indicate a dangerous trend toward further crisis.
The statement warns that interference in constitutional rights or any form of violence—whether by political parties or youth movements—is unacceptable. It further notes that any attempt by Gen-Z groups to target a political party in the name of activism undermines democratic competition, while retaliatory actions by parties could complicate the security situation and jeopardize the possibility of holding peaceful elections on Falgun 21.
The Civic Group cautioned that failure to conduct peaceful elections could push the nation into a political vacuum with far-reaching consequences for all sides.
The group urged the government, political parties, and Gen-Z activists to avoid actions that disturb peace, public order, and the electoral environment. It stressed the need for calmness, dialogue-based solutions, and steadfast commitment to the constitutional path.
While acknowledging that political parties have the right to travel, hold assemblies, and express their views—especially during election season—the group urged them to avoid incitement, confrontation, or tension. It also called on Gen-Z youths to uphold constitutional values and adhere to peaceful, democratic expressions.
The statement further reminded Gen-Z that any shift toward revenge, violence, or restrictive actions could undermine the positive public image gained from the protests of Bhadra 23 and 24. It emphasised that the government must also take seriously its historic responsibility to ensure a free, fair, and peaceful election on Falgun 21.
