A clash broke out between squatters and municipal police along the Manohara Riverbank. The confrontation occurred after the Kathmandu Metropolitan City police demolished settlements, prompting local residents to protest in anger.
Locals reportedly hurled bricks and stones at the police, who responded with baton charges to disperse the crowd. Early in the morning, the municipal police, accompanied by the Nepal Police and bulldozers, arrived and demolished the squatters’ shelters.
The demolition during the monsoon season has left the squatters distressed. The operation was carried out by a team led by Raju Pandey, chief of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City Police.
