A clash between two groups over the inauguration of a fair in Rautahat left five people injured, including the mayor and two police officers.
The incident occurred at Shri Krishna Janmashtami Fair in Dharhari, Ward No. 9, Dewahi Gonahi Municipality. Mayor Premlal Sah of Dewahi Gonahi Municipality was among those injured.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rajan Karki of Ilaka Police Office, Garuda, stated that a total of five people were injured, including police personnel Dhansundar Thakur and Jagdish Yadav. Mayor Sah sustained a serious head injury, while the other four injured individuals are in stable condition. All injured are receiving treatment at Better Nepal Hospital in Garuda. Due to the head injury, Mayor Sah is being prepared for referral to Birgunj for further treatment.
The clash erupted over the inauguration of the fair organized at Shri Ram Janaki Brahmababa Math, Dharhari, during Krishna Janmashtami. Mayor Sah went to the temple premises to inaugurate the fair, but a local group led by Ramvinod Sah opposed the inauguration, leading to an altercation and subsequent physical confrontation between the two sides.
Police have arrested three individuals—Radhamohan Sah, Ramvinod Sah, and Rithik Sah—who are currently in custody at Ilaka Police Office, Garuda, as the investigation continues.
