Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagdish Kharel has emphasized the need to make postal services modern, commercial, and competitive.
During an inspection and monitoring visit to the Goshwara Post Office in Dillibazar on Monday, Minister Kharel said postal services must adapt to changing circumstances and move forward with a business-oriented action plan.
“We must make postal services more commercial and competitive. The postal service should be able to generate revenue. Within the next five years, there should be an implementation-focused action plan that enables the postal service to contribute to the state and the public,” Minister Kharel said.
He also instructed officials to expedite the implementation of the ‘Smart Post Office’ initiative.
Communications Secretary Radhika Aryal said efforts are underway for policy and structural reforms to implement the smart postal system. “A proposal for approving smart post office standards has already been submitted to the ministry and will be approved and implemented soon. Budget provisions have been made this year to upgrade 50 post offices into smart post offices,” she said.
