The Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist) (CPN-UML) has released its manifesto for the House of Representatives Election 2082, pledging a range of welfare and youth-focused programs if it leads the next government.
Unveiling the manifesto on Thursday, the party committed to providing interest-free loans of up to NPR 2 million to students across the country. It also promised to provide 10 GB of free internet data per month for one year to youths aged between 18 and 28.
The manifesto further includes provisions for a USD 10,000 dollar card facility, an annual NPR 5,000 bonus for migrant workers sending remittances to be deposited into their bank accounts, and their enrollment in the Social Security Fund.
The UML has pledged to provide free mid-day meals to students up to Grade 10 and free sanitary pads to adolescent girls. It also committed to raising the minimum monthly wage of workers to NPR 25,000.
Similarly, the party has promised an annual allowance of NPR 20,000 for female community health volunteers and a maternity nutrition allowance of NPR 20,000. It also pledged to waive all loans of up to NPR 25,000 taken before Bhadra 2082 and to determine a formal ranking order for teachers. Teachers from community and private schools alike would be included in a contribution-based social security system.
Additionally, the manifesto commits to providing interest-free loans of up to NPR 2 million to women entrepreneurs and offering free life insurance coverage of NPR 500,000 to pregnant women.
