Construction work on the East–West Railway has been halted due to a compensation dispute in the Bardibas Municipality area.
The work has stopped because 14 individuals have not received their compensation. With the support of the Government of India, railway service has already come into operation from Jaynagar in India to the railway station in Bhangaha Municipality of Mahottari district. However, construction from Bhangaha to Bardibas has been stalled due to unpaid compensation.
An amount of approximately NPR 70 to 80 million remains to be paid to the 14 affected individuals. The department has stated that it has requested the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport to release the necessary funds.
Despite repeatedly visiting the Railway Department to claim their compensation, the affected locals of Bardibas have not received payment. After their warnings to halt the construction went unheard, they have finally stopped the railway construction work in Bardibas.
