Nepali Congress leader and former Health Minister Pradeep Paudel has said that the party cannot contest the upcoming election under the leadership of party president and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba.
Citing the current political and organizational situation, Paudel claimed that the Congress can only move forward under second-generation leadership. While acknowledging Deuba’s long contribution to the party and the country, Paudel emphasized that it is now time to hand over leadership to the younger generation.
“Sher Bahadur Deuba has led the party for 30 years,” Paudel said. “Now it’s time for the second generation to take over. Considering the current circumstances, only new leadership can bring success to the Congress in the upcoming elections.”
Paudel’s remarks have further intensified the debate over leadership change within the Nepali Congress, especially ahead of the upcoming general convention and the 2082 Falgun 21 election. Younger leaders in the party have been demanding a generational shift in leadership following the GenZ movement.
