
Constitution Day and National Day 2082 is being marked today with various programs, as in previous years. The main ceremony is scheduled to take place at 8:30 AM at the Army Pavilion, Tundikhel, with President Ramchandra Paudel as the chief guest. Prime Minister Sushila Karki will address the ceremony.
In view of the current political situation, cultural processions and other special displays have been suspended for this year’s celebration.
Nepal’s Constitution was promulgated on Ashwin 3, 2072 BS (20th September 2015 AD) by the Constituent Assembly as the outcome of the long and sacrificial struggle of the Nepali people. After the second Constituent Assembly election, the Assembly drafted and finalized the constitution following years of debate and effort.
On the night of Ashwin 3, 2072, then-President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav officially proclaimed the new Constitution of Nepal from the International Convention Centre, New Baneshwor, which was the Assembly’s meeting venue.
