Controversial medical entrepreneur and pro-monarchy activist Durga Prasai has been arrested. In response, the Citizens’ Rescue Front, an organization under his patronage, has announced that it will begin street protests starting today.
Just on Monday, Prasai had held a press conference stating that they were preparing to “shut down the entire country” on Mangsir 7 through a nationwide movement. Police arrested him from his residence in Thimi, Bhaktapur, accusing him of attempting to disrupt peace and security.
Prasai has now been taken to the Kathmandu District Police Office in Bhadra Kali. He and his supporters had earlier announced a movement from Kathmandu on Mangsir 7, claiming it would be an alternative to the current republican system and corruption.
Meanwhile, protesting Prasai’s arrest, the Citizens’ Rescue Front has declared the start of protest programs from today itself. Leaders of the group said they would immediately take to the streets.
According to the Front’s General Secretary, Prem Kumar Thamsuhang, they will not wait until Mangsir 7 and are preparing for a nationwide protest starting today. He also accused the government of disturbing peace by arresting Prasai “in an abduction-like manner.”
