The 11th General Convention of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist) is electing its new leadership through voting today.
According to the party’s Central Election Commission, voting will begin after 4:00 PM on Tuesday at the closed session venue of the convention at Bhrikutimandap. Earlier, the voting time had been scheduled from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, but the election schedule was revised on Monday, leading to a change in voting hours.
Following the publication of the final list of candidates, the central election team has been engaged in technical preparations. The process of registering candidates into the voting system is expected to continue until 4:00 PM.
In the 11th General Convention, KP Sharma Oli and Ishwar Pokhrel are contesting for the post of Chairperson. Candidates for the post of Vice-Chairperson include Arun Nepal, Guru Baral, Gokarna Raj Bista, Tank Karki, Parashurameghi Gurung, Prithvi Subba Gurung, Bhim Prasad Acharya, Raghuji Pant, Ram Bahadur Thapa ‘Badal’, Dr. Binda Pandey, and Bishnu Prasad Paudel. For the post of General Secretary, Shankar Pokhrel and Surendra Prasad Pandey are in the race.
Candidates for the position of Deputy General Secretary are Anand Prasad Pokhrel, Yogesh Bhattarai, Raghuvir Mahaseth, Rajendra Prasad Gautam, Lekhraj Bhatt, Bishnu Prasad Rimal, and Baijnath Chaudhary.
A total of 20 candidates are contesting for the post of Secretary. They include Agni Prasad Kharel, Indra Lal Sapkota, Karna Bahadur Thapa, Krishna Gopal Shrestha, Khagaraj Adhikari, Gokul Prasad Baskota, Chhabilal Bishwakarma, Thakur Prasad Gaire, Padma Kumari Aryal, Purushottam Paudel, Pemba Lama, Bhanu Bhakta Dhakal, Mahesh Basnet, Yamalal Kandel, Rachana Khadka, Rajan Bhattarai, Lalbabu Pandit, Binod Prasad Dhakal, Sherdhan Rai, and Hikmat Kumar Karki.
According to the Election Commission, 80 electronic voting machines will be used for the election, and each voter is expected to take approximately 25 to 30 minutes to cast their vote.
