The Nepal Communist Party (UML) has sped up the process of recommending candidates nationwide for the House of Representatives election scheduled for Falgun 21.
Following directives from the party central committee, district and constituency-level committees are submitting candidate recommendations. During the process, some districts have forwarded a single candidate’s name, while others have sent multiple aspirants’ names. A few districts have even forwarded the names of all interested candidates to the central committee.
According to UML Secretary Mahesh Basnet, single candidates have so far been recommended from 24 constituencies.
Among the single-name recommendations, the following leaders and constituencies have been finalized:
- Chairman: KP Sharma Oli – Jhapa–5
- Vice-Chairman: Vishnu Poudel – Rupandehi–2
- General Secretary: Shankar Pokharel – Dang–2
- Deputy General Secretary: Lekhraj Bhatt – Kailali–4
- Secretary: Mahesh Basnet – Bhaktapur–2
Other leaders recommended from various constituencies include:
- Pradeep Gyawali – Gulmi–1
- Ishwar Pokharel – Kathmandu–5
- Leelanath Shrestha – Siraha–3
- Ajay Gupta – Rautahat–1
- Hari Upreti – Sarlahi–3
- Tilak Mahat – Nawalpur–2
- Milan Gurung – Gorkha–2
- Badri Mainali – Nuwakot–1
- Surya Dhakal – Banke–1
- Dalbahadur Sunar – Banke–3
- Bishram Chaudhary – Kapilvastu–1
- Suhang Nembang – Ilam–2
- Laxmi Mahto Koiri – Mahottari–1
Additionally, candidates recommended for the House of Representatives include:
- Dhruv Shahi – Surkhet–1
- Kaladhar Devkota – Surkhet–2
- Gulabjang Shah – Salyan
- Maniram Phuyal – Kathmandu–2 (proposed)
- Damodar Bhandari – Baitadi
- Ganesh Thagunna – Darchula
Secretary Basnet stated that several other constituencies and districts have also selected single candidates by consensus, while in some areas the selection process is still ongoing. The final list of candidates will be confirmed once all district and constituency recommendations reach the central committee.
