The CPN-UML is set to unveil a new organization today under the name National Volunteer Force (NVF). Party chair KP Sharma Oli will formally announce the force at Karki Banquet, located at Babarmahal Heights.
A rally organized by UML supporters has already moved from Tinkune toward Maitighar. Meanwhile, a group identifying themselves as injured Gen-Z protesters has staged a sit-in at Maitighar Mandala. They claim they are fighting for justice and have vowed not to let anyone pass through the area. Police are currently announcing via loudspeakers that no gathering has been approved at Maitighar and urging the group to remain calm.
With UML’s rally heading toward Maitighar and Gen-Z activists already on the streets, the possibility of confrontation has increased. The Gen-Z group has been chanting slogans expressing anger toward UML’s activities. In anticipation of potential clashes, a large number of Nepal Police and Armed Police Force personnel have been deployed in the Maitighar area.
Earlier, in Simara, Bara district, scuffles broke out after Gen-Z youths attempted to disrupt a program organized by UML leaders Shankar Pokhrel and Mahesh Basnet. The incident escalated tensions in Simara, resulting in the imposition of a curfew. Two UML ward chairpersons were also arrested. The Gen-Z group, however, has warned that they will continue their protest until all individuals they have reported to authorities are arrested.
