A of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist) (CPN-UML) is currently underway. The meeting, originally scheduled for 11:00 AM on Tuesday, began about an hour late at the party’s central office.
This is the second secretariat meeting since party chairman K. P. Sharma Oli was arrested on charges of suppressing the “Gen Z movement.” Earlier, on Saturday—the same day Oli was detained—a meeting chaired by Vice Chairman Ram Bahadur Thapa ‘Badal’ had decided on protest programs.
During the Gen Z movement period, Oli, who was then Prime Minister, and Nepali Congress leader Ramesh Lekhak, who was serving as Home Minister, were arrested from their respective residences on Saturday morning.
The Kathmandu District Court on Sunday granted permission to keep them in custody for five days for investigation. Additionally, the court has issued a show-cause order in response to a habeas corpus petition filed regarding their detention.
